Västra Nordstan is one of Gothenburg's oldest and most central areas. Kronhusbodarna, Postgatan, The Town Hall and The City Museum all sit in this quarter of Gothenburg city centre. It’s an important area with lots going on that continues to evolve as a central urban space in a city undergoing rapid change.

Postagan - The Sleeping Lane

Postgatan in Västra Nordstan is historically an important and lively stretch of Gothenburg city centre. Listen carefully and you will hear this quiet backstreet stirring! Opening up the buildings by rebuilding the arcades into business premises is one plan to make it more pleasant for tourists visiting Kronhuset and locals accessing public services. Think cafes, restaurants, boutique stores and a vibrant cultural scene.

Västra Nordstan Revival

As part of Gothenburg's 400th anniversary, Higab has initiated extensive development work in the Västra Nordstan district based on the key words sustainability, innovation and tradition. The goal is a vibrant and safe district where the focus and range of activities must be characterized by a sustainability concept and be a contrast and complement to the range in Nordstan's shopping centre.

Street Art

Artists and cultural enthusiasts consistently create new artworks in Västra Nordstan as part of a multi-year collaboration between Higab and Sätt färg på Göteborg. Gothenburg's 400th anniversary saw the commissioning of Amanda Karlssons piece on the corner of Torggatan and Postgatan.

Image and film bring to life Västra Nordstan’s rich history. Within this project, activities were carried out that illustrate and present this district and its history through exhibitions, illustrations, publications, lectures, seminars and workshops as well as innovative digital technology.

Purple Flag - Västra Nordstan

Västra Nordstan is one of the target areas with a strong focus on safety and security. Purple Flag promote a range of cultural activities in the evenings promoting a collaborative, lively and safe night time economy.
