American
The Barn blends Swedish produce and American food culture boasting some of the best burgers in town.
Argentinian
Buenos Aires Argentine Steakhouse is on the Avenyn and serves quality steaks with Malbec, of course.
Austrian
Manfred’s has a menu that takes you to Austria (via Switzerland) with schnitzels that will make you yodelay!
British
The Old Beefeater Inn just off Linnégatan has the atmosphere of an authentic London boozer and classic British pub food.
Chinese
Beijing8 is well known for its fantastic dumplings and also serves a range of core Asian dishes.
Ethiopian
Simbas opposite the Opera House serves traditional Ethiopian and Eritrean food including great vegan options.
Eritrean
Gezana is a small basement restaurant serving tasty food from east africa, similar to Simbas (above) not surprisingly! Simbas would be my choice of the two – but Gezana is well worth a visit.
French
Levantine is an authentic French-style bistro. A pricey menu is worth it to enjoy the beautiful outdoor seating area. Boules court too!
Greek
Restaurang Athena serves traditional simple Greek food at reasonable prices.
Indian
Tre Indier is often labelled the best Indian restaurant in Gothenburg and has great lunch deals.
Italian
Trattoria La Strega is a cosy, authentic Italian. Make sure to book ahead.
Japanese
Izakaya near Lilla Bommen is upstairs from its sister restaurant, the Korean restaurant KOMO (also worth a visit).
Korean
Yammy Kitchen on Andra Långgatan is a traditional Korean joint with fast service and tasty kimchi, dumplings and Korean BBQ.
Lebanese
Beirut House offers good sized portions and tempting baklava deserts in a candlelit restaurant setting.
Mexican
Tizne on Fjärde Långgatan has both tasting menus and relaxed street food options.
Moroccan
Restaurang Fatima serves Moroccan favourites such as lamb tajine in a cosy and welcoming environment.
Nepalese
Restuarang Himilaya on Olivedalsgatan serves fantastic Nepalese curries and grilled meats.
Palestinian
One of my favourite restaurants in Gothenburg – Silvis has a great atmosphere and a menu to please everyone.
Spanish
Basque serves pintxos at the bar. No hot food but it’s one of my favourite places in Gothenburg, so it has to be in!
Thai
Most neighbourhoods in Gothenburg have a local Thai restaurant. Moon Thai situated just off Avenyn is amongst the most authentic if more expensive. Fun interior with tuk-tuk tables.
Turkish
Pasha Grill serves Turkish favourites including great meat dishes and meze in a casual, comfortable setting.
Vietnamese
This is the hardest to choose of all cuisines, so many good Vietnamese options. The winner is Vi Viet, although a word of warning for large groups – you can’t book tables of more than six.
