Gothenburg is definitely a foodie destination. The last five years or so has seen an array of affordable fine dining restaurants popping up. They may not have a Michelin star, but the food is simply amazing – and the gastronomic experience will not burn a hole in your wallet.
Bord 27
A cosy and intimate restaurant in Vasastan with high ambitions when it comes to food as well as wine. Bord 27 has a seasonal menu that will please vegetarians, sea-foodies and meat-lovers. Be sure to book a table well before you want to go, this place is very popular and only seats 38 people.
Restaurang Natur
The sister restaurant to Bord 27 focuses on natural wines and superb food. The small menu is seasonal – often with organic and locally sourced produce. The natural wines are often exciting and the wine pairing is obviously a great way to enjoy them. Restaurang Natur is situated next to Avenyn and like its sister, it’s quite a popular place. So don’t forget to book well in advance, especially if you want to go on a weekend.
Bang Matbar
Situated just down the hill from Henriksberg on Stigbergsleden sits a relatively new and extremely welcome addition to the Gothenburg affordable fine dining scene. With a warm and friendly atmosphere combining the owner’s local and Uruguayan heritage the menu changes often but is always delicious. Whether you want some light food whilst having a glass of wine in a convivial atmosphere or something more hearty - Bang Matbar will not disappoint.
TOSO

If you like Asian food this is the place for you. TOSO doesn’t focus on a specific country – they take what they love from different Asian cuisines and make their own interpretations. Be sure to check out their experimental cocktail menu as well, seriously good.
Trattoria La Strega
By far the best Italian restaurant in Gothenburg. Trattoria La Strega offers genuine and heartfelt food with a focus on northern Italian cuisine. The wines are biodynamic or natural wines. Very popular in Gothenburg these days! The restaurant is run by chef Nina Rydqvist and partner Andrea Consonni.

On Magasinsgatan 19 the food takes inspiration from traditional Italian cuisine. Served in a stylish with an eye-catching horse’s head taking center stage, it brings a New York City vibe to eating out in GBG, pretty cool, eh?
I prefer to enjoy the options as “sharing meals“, it’s a popular way approach found in all regions of Italy and means you get to try all the dishes available on the table, clever Italians!
Carbon
One of the best newcomers in Gothenburg and conveniently placed near Gothenburg Central Station. Carbon offer well-composed dishes that are thought through to the smallest detail. An experience beyond the ordinary without feeling stiff - expect good service with a personal touch. Order 3 to 5 dishes with a many with a distinctly Scandinavian lean.
Bistro Odette
This little French gem is situated in Linné and can seat 18 people. Bistro Odette is run by couple Emma and Mathias –Mathias in the kitchen and Emma out front. Here you can eat well-cooked, classic, French food. A plat du jour is always on the menu.
